Microsoft Preparing To Launch Windows 12 In 2024

Microsoft (MSFT) is planning to release Windows 12 in 2024, returning to a three-year release cycle for the computer operating system.

Microsoft had moved away from its three-year release cycle with the release of Windows 10 in 2015, switching Windows to more of a service rather than a product.

Since its initial release seven years ago, Windows 10 has been updated twice each year with new features. Some analysts predicted that Windows 10 would be the last release of the computer operating system.

Microsoft had previously said that Windows would be delivered to consumers as a service, providing new innovations and updates to the operating system on an ongoing basis.

However, Microsoft surprised markets last year by releasing Windows 11 and moving to an annual pace of updates for both Windows 10 and 11.

Microsoft stock is down 24% this year at $254.08 U.S. per share.

Along with Windows 12 that is reportedly being prepared for release in 2024, Microsoft still has plans to keep Windows 11 updated in coming years. The next significant update to Windows 11 is expected to arrive in September or October of this year.

Microsoft has put a renewed focus on Windows after the pandemic boosted its usage around the world, declaring in advertisements that “the PC is back.”
