Apple (AAPL) is planning to bring back its 12-inch MacBook computer and is adding a larger, 15-inch MacBook Air, as the technology giant looks to expand its lineup of laptops, according to multiple media reports.
Apple unveiled several new products and upgrades to existing ones this past week at its annual Developers Conference. While plans for the new MacBooks weren’t announced at that event, media reports say Apple is moving to bring the new laptops to market over the next 18 months.
Apple’s 15-inch MacBook Air could arrive as early as next spring (2023), and the 12-inch MacBook by early 2024. Apple currently offers 13-inch models of the Macbook Air and 13-, 14- and 16-inch models of the MacBook Pro.
Apple has been known to discontinue and then bring back different versions of its consumer electronics, such as the iPhone SE.
The 15-inch model of the MacBook Air would be the first of that size since the Air’s debut back in 2008. Apple discontinued its 12-inch MacBook in 2019, four years after it was initally released.
Apple stock has fallen 22% this year to $142.64 U.S. a share.
