Pre-orders for the Samsung (SSNLF) Galaxy S22 smartphone are more than double those for last year’s Galaxy S21, the company has reported.
Samsung did not report exactly how many pre-orders it has in advance of the phones going on sale around the world today (February 25), but it did say that more than 60% of its orders are for the top-of-the-line Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, which starts at a price of $1,200 U.S.
While the new phone doesn’t vastly improve on last year’s S21 Ultra (it has a newer chipset, faster charging, and slightly better photography), the addition of an S Pen stylus slot effectively makes it a new note phone.
The new Galaxy Tab S8 tablet has also seen pre-orders double over last year’s Tab S7 series with the top-of-the-line Tab S8 Ultra accounting for half of the orders. The new tablets also come with modest upgrades.
Whether there will be enough Samsung Galaxy S22 phones to satisfy demand remains a concern as pandemic-related supply chain issues continue.
