Social media platform Reddit is upgrading its search features.
For the first time, Reddit users will have the option to pull results from replies to posts, making it less difficult to find something specific outside of general Reddit posts.
The change to the search feature is Reddit’s latest attempt to help users find content from outside their usual subreddits. In January of this year, Reddit added a “discovery” tab on its mobile app.
Reddit says that in a user survey last year, the ability to search comments was one of the top user requests. During “limited initial testing,” Reddit claimed 26,000 users went on to use the feature against five billion comments.
Reddit says the new updates will enable users to look up the latest breaking news quicker and more accurately than was previously the case.
In addition to comment searching, Reddit is also updating its search feature to help users find more relevant search results written by real people.
Right now, Reddit search results are populated by relevance. With the new search feature, results will be based on post interactions within the site. User interactions with a particular search result will help determine which results rank the highest.
