The premiere of new TV show ‘House of the Dragon,’ a spinoff of the hugely popular ‘Game of Thrones’ series, has crashed the app of HBO Max.

HBO subscribers are up in arms on social media about not being able to watch the premiere of the highly anticipated fantasy drama due to technical problems caused by a flood of viewers.

In a press release, HBO said that the problem with its app is occurring among viewers who connect online via Amazon devices.

“House of the Dragon is being successfully viewed by millions of HBO Max subscribers this evening,” HBO said in a written statement. “We’re aware of a small portion of users attempting to connect via Fire TV devices that are having issues and are in the process of resolving for those impacted users.”

Amazon is producing a new fantasy drama of its own called ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,’ a show that is expected to compete against ‘House of the Dragon.’

HBO Max is owned by Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), whose stock is down 46% this year and trading at $13.73 U.S. per share.

However, connection difficulties on the HBO Max app have occurred in the past during premiere seasons of ‘Game of Thrones.’

‘House of the Dragon’ is about a civil war that takes place in Westeros nearly 200 years before the events of ‘Game of Thrones.’
