Current and former employees of Twitter are suing the social media company for failing to pay millions of dollars in bonuses after Elon Musk acquired the company last fall.
The lawsuit has been filed in a San Francisco federal court by Mark Schobinger, a former director of compensation at Twitter. He left the company in May of this year.
The lawsuit is seeking class action status for former and current Twitter employees who did not receive a 2022 financial bonus.
The legal complaint states that employees had been reassured that bonuses would be honoured after Musk purchased Twitter for $44 billion U.S. and took the company private late last year.
However, despite the reassurances, Twitter has yet to pay out employee bonuses, the lawsuit claims. Schobinger says he left the company largely because it failed to pay the promised bonuses.
The lawsuit is the latest in a string of legal actions taken by former Twitter employees after Musk cut 80% of the staff to lower costs.
Several class action suits have been brought against Twitter in recent months, including on behalf of female and disabled employees.
Another lawsuit against Twitter revolves around promises to allow remote work to continue. And yet another lawsuit concerns severance benefits.
Twitter has not yet responded to the latest lawsuit concerning bonus payments.
The company’s stock is no longer publicly traded.
