E-commerce giant eBay (EBAY) plans to adopt cryptocurrency payments, according to company chief executive officer (CEO) Jamie Lannone.
In a media interview, Lannone said an announcement regarding cryptocurrency payments is likely to be made during eBay’s investor’s day scheduled for March 10.
“We’re not accepting crypto currently,” said Lannone. “On March 10 we’re going to go deeper on all of these things, payments, advertising, our focus categories.”
The potential move looks to further cement eBay’s stance as being a company aimed at younger consumers, particularly members of Generation Z and millennials.
eBay currently facilitates the trade of NFTs on its platform, with Lannone adding that it will become the “marketplace for sustainability” going forward.
eBay would become the latest e-commerce platform to adopt cryptocurrency payments, following others such as PayPal (PYPL), Microsoft (MSFT) and Rakuten.
